The 4-H Protege Program is designed to educate our younger or less experienced equine 4-H members and future 4-Hers. Youth from the age of 5 and up are teamed with a more experienced 4-H equine member who will act as a teacher throughout the year.
Events include the Mandatory Protege Clinic, a separate Protege Show and classes during the Wayne County Fair in Belleville, Michigan.
The teacher will work with their protege on workbooks, knowledge and hands on application with a horse.
The hands on topics include grooming and horse care, as well as showing. Youth under the age of 9 will not be "judged" during these competitions based on State 4-H regulations, but will instead receive positive critiques and areas for improvement during the shows and classes. Youth 9 and up will receive actual placings during the competitions as well as positive critiques to improve their equine experience. See information on our home page and our forms page for information on Protege Clinic dates and information on shows.
